Darüşşafaka Foundation continues to participate in the activities of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), where it became a member with special consultative status in 2015. Darüşşafaka alumni Özlem Mutlu Özkan (DS'2001) and Mustafa Çağıl Işık (DS'2010) attended ECOSOC meetings as representatives of Darüşşafaka Society.

The Development Cooperation Forum, which took place on 14-15 March at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, was opened by ECOSOC President Lachezara Stoeva. The final part of the Forum was a round table discussion.

In the first session, under the title "Protecting the lives and habitats of vulnerable groups for more effective development cooperation", it was discussed that development cooperation should prioritise the protection of vulnerable groups most affected by unpredictable events such as crises and natural disasters, and in this context the need to move forward by emphasising the "Sustainable Development Goals". Darüşşafaka ECOSOC representatives also had the opportunity to speak in the session where the "human" dimension was emphasised and it was stressed that these groups are the groups that development cooperation promises to serve.

Özlem Mutlu Özkan (DS'2001) and Mustafa Çağıl Işık (DS'2010), representing Darüşşafaka, made a statement on the devastating effects of the earthquakes that have deeply affected our country, the vulnerable groups and the activities that our company has carried out with a sense of responsibility during these earthquakes as it has done throughout its history.

At the 2nd Session on Effective Development Cooperation, which focused on increasing efforts on climate resilience, it was noted that, despite the commitments made by some countries, support from a wider group of donors is needed to cover the losses and damages caused by climate change.

On 15 March, Gueye Diane, Minister for Women, Family and Child Protection of Senegal, expressed condolences and sympathy for victims of the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria during the third session on "Accelerating effective social protection policies".

On 17 March, Darüşşafaka alumni had the opportunity to meet with Sedat Onal, our Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and on 5 April they will attend the Financing for Development (FfD) Forum Committee meeting and on 25 April they will speak at the Youth Forum.

We would like to thank our team for representing Darüşşafaka and our country at the Forum, where there was an urgent call for governments to accelerate the work of development cooperation and better support the most vulnerable groups.
