Dear Colleagues and Friends;
Today is one of the saddest days of my life because on the 16th of September last year we tragically lost my brother and life coach Dr. Volkan Paydak. On this day, we are starting a campaign under his name to donate to the Darussafaka Foundation, which funds the Darussafaka Middle and High School in Istanbul, Turkey, where I had had my education, all in English between 1974 and 1982. Since 1863, this foundation, which is headed by the Prime Minister of Turkey, gives "Equal Education Opportunity" to talented children who had lost their mom or dad and don't have the means to have a good education. One of my classmates Mr. Tayfun Oktem is the current president of this foundation.
Dr. Volkan Paydak was born in Tarsus, Turkey, in 1968. Volkan never saw his dad who died when he was only 8 months old. Despite this and many health related hurdles, he graduated from the top medical school in Turkey, Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, in 1992. He had his Internal Medicine Residency at Cukurova University Hospital in Adana. He worked as an internist for the Turkish Ministry of Health in three different cities for 22 years until he retired early due to health reasons in 2018. He was married to Dr. Isil Paydak in 1999 and his 15 year old daughter Naz was his joy of life.
I am sure that our kids Ozan and Vatan will always remember their uncle Volkan, when he jokingly hit his chest during a competitive pingpong match with Ozan and said: "I am a Turk, you can't beat me!". My wife Ayse and I will also remember our traditional facetime conversations with him every Sunday. We will never forget his smiling face and handsome image.
Over the last year, I am trying to sooth my pain by listening to Azeri ballads, such as this one: "We were going to meet this spring! It has been 12 months but you have not showed up..."
I also hear Volkan saying to me: "Along the abundant mulberry trees I have not had enough mulberry...
If you would like to donate to Darussafaka Foundation, please press the attached link which was designed in English for you. Once again, I would like to thank you all for your prayers and continuous support to me and my family over the last year while trying to cope with this unbearable loss.
